The History of Sun Orchard's Micro-Juicery

 

Sun Orchard was founded in Tempe, Arizona in 1984. Initially a packing-house operation during the heyday of the Arizona citrus industry, Sun Orchard’s juice business was created by utilizing one of the principles of sustainability – finding a valuable use for waste. The company had been simply discarding citrus that was not quite attractive enough for grocery store shelves, but one day someone discovered that the juice from this fruit was delicious. It turned out to be so good that Sun Orchard dropped the packing-house operation to focus entirely on making fresh-squeezed juices.

Throughout the 1980s, Sun Orchard's customer base grew gradually from its local activities in Arizona and out into California. With issues such as a short product shelf life, distribution challenges, and limited access to financial resources, Sun Orchard focused primarily on foodservice and some private label retail opportunities.

In 1992, Sun Orchard purchased a facility in Strathmore, California in order to increase capacity. With the ability to balance the Arizona and California fruit seasons, Sun Orchard's customer base and distribution capability began to grow. In mid-1995, President and CEO Marc Isaacs, along with a private investor, bought Sun Orchard from its original owners. At that time, these two individuals established a formal Vision and Mission Statement for the organization, which outlined values that the company continues to operate based on.

Sun Orchard, like many organizations, is defined by its products and people. In an industry and world that are ever-changing, Sun Orchard's ownership team is committed to maintaining a Vision and Mission that remain constant.

Vision Statement: To develop Sun Orchard into a nationally recognized company which manufactures and distributes premium quality, safe juice products and provides value for its customers, team members (employees), shareholders, suppliers, the industry, and the communities in which it does business.

In order to achieve and maintain this Vision, each and every member of the Sun Orchard team must operate in accordance with the following Mission Statement.

Growth

With these newly defined values and additional financial resources, Sun Orchard grew dramatically over the next few years, moving on to serve customers throughout the western United States from Southern California to Western Canada, and as far east as Chicago and south to Texas.

In 1999, Sun Orchard expanded again with the purchase of 28 acres and a fully operational citrus juice and fruit processing facility in Central Florida (Haines City), right in the heart of the proud citrus capital of the United States. This helped the company to better serve its ever-growing national account base and allowed Sun Orchard greater access to Florida’s abundant citrus supply. Over the next five years, business continued to grow as Sun Orchard secured many national and regional restaurant, hotel, and foodservice distribution accounts. This expansion took Sun Orchard into all of the major metropolitan areas in the US and Canada, significantly broadening our distribution capabilities, efficiencies, and product offerings.

Today, Sun Orchard products are enjoyed daily throughout the US and Canada in independent and multi-unit restaurants, bars, and hotels that pride themselves on carrying the highest quality food and beverages. We have longstanding relationships with the most widely known broad-line foodservice distributors as well as dozens of smaller, narrow-line distributors. Our products are delivered in every metro area in the US and Canada at least once per week, and we are excited to be adding new customers in these areas all the time.
